Chicago an important commercial and travel destination in the US has two major airports: Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport. While it also houses two minor airports and one more airport was there before. Chicago has a few of the minor airports, which operate some of the commercial flights in and around the region. These minor airports operate only narrow or proposed commercial services. The minor airports in Chicago are as follows:

- Gary or Chicago International Airport: This airport is situated at Gary, Indiana. It lies at a proper distance of 25 miles from the main city center of Chicago. Gary or Chicago International Airport is the third among the four airports operating in the region of Chicago. As of now, this airport operates only the proposed commercial flights while it is being developed by the federal body and is planning a tie up with other airlines. Now it is the center for operating the business fleets of Boeing and White Lodging Services. The National Guard is starting new facilities in order to begin their metropolitan area air operation from here itself.
- Chicago or Rockford International Airport: The other minor but important airport is the Chicago or Rockford International Airport, which is located at Rockford. This airport is small but serves all international and national flights to Rockford, Chicago as well as other places. This airport also flies all flights to Denver, Las Vegas, St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Orlando Sanford. The authorities in charge of managing this airport are taking steps to attract passengers from the western outskirts of Chicago.

Meigs Field: The other airport, which was located at Chicago, was known as the Meigs Field Airport. It generally operated all types of private flights. This airport was suddenly closed in 2003 according to the Mayor's orders.
