Chicago is regarded as the financial, business, and cultural capital of the Midwest. It is also a transportation hub of North America. The city also boasts of being among the ten most influential cities of the world. Owing to its importance in the international arena every day dozens of flight lands the city. All the international flights to Chicago land in either Midway International Airport on the south side or O'Hare International Airport, one of the world's busiest airports, on the far northwest side.

In 2005, O'Hare was given the title of world's busiest airport by aircraft movements and the second busiest in terms of total passenger traffic. Both the airports are owned and controlled by the City of Chicago.

Gary/Chicago International Airport located in Gary, Indiana, is about 25 miles from the Chicago loop
Chicago/Rockford International Airport in Rockford, runs scheduled airline service to Denver, Las Vegas, St. Petersburg/Clearwater, and Orlando Sanford.
Previously, Meigs Field was another minor Chicago airport.

Chicago also holds the title of the most balanced economy in the United States. Chicago has also been named as the fourth most important business center in the world.
