The Field Museum in Chicago

Among the scores of tourist attractions that the US boasts of, The Field Museum in Chicago is an important one. Built with an objective of accumulation and dissemination of knowledge and information pertaining to art, history, science and archaeology, The Field Museum was renamed as The Field Museum of Natural History that subsequently was relocated to District Park property near Downtown and currently is part of the Museum Campus in the lakefront that includes globally acclaimed John G Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium.

The collections of The Field Museum consist of the anthropological and biological items of more than 20 million specimens. The Library of the museum consists of a valuable collection of more than 2, 50,000 volumes used extensively to aid and assist in the educational and research program. Exhibits, artifacts, lectures, museum overnights and audio-visual materials form an integral part of the museums educational program.

The exhibits at The Field Museum in Chicago are many and varied. Some of the permanent exhibits displaying animals, plants and ecosystem and culture are:

The museum also provides for a good number of educational tours and programs for students, researchers and teachers.

One of the more renowned museums, it offers various categories of memberships for individual, family, student and senior citizen with various membership fees in the range of $40 and above for a year. The membership remains open throughout the year and facilities vary, depending upon the respective class of membership. The usual hours during which it remains open are from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening with last admission being allowed till 4 p.m.
